Overview
Altheos, Inc., was founded in early 2009 to identify and develop promising new drugs for
significant unmet needs in ophthalmology and for which there is a clear development path to regulatory and
commercial success. In 2010, the company entered into collaboration with Asahi-Kasei Pharma, which has a
long-standing interest and expertise in the areas of Rho kinase (ROCK) biology and chemistry. Worldwide rights
(excluding Japan and Korea) were obtained to a series of novel compounds in the ROCK inhibitor class with promising
activity in lowering intraocular pressure (IOP) in animal models with minimal side effects. This included an
advanced lead, ATS907, which was optimized for ocular administration, as well as a number of promising back-up
compounds (including another ROCK inhibitor, ATS8535).
Altheos has secured $32.5M in Series A financing since 2010 from leading life-science venture capital firms,
including Bay City Capital, Novo A/S, Canaan Partners, and other investors, to advance its lead drug candidate,
ATS907, to Phase 3.
